Using the device you will define meter settings that are needed to establish the connection for the meter.
It's very important that the correct manufacturer or device template is selected. All DLMS meters are different and meter manufacturers are using different settings. If one of the settings is different than the meter expects, the meter returns an error or ignores the connection.

• Create the device immediately.
  The device is created when it's added. It is convenient to create devices when needed when devices are added enormously. This makes device creation faster.
• Manufacturer
  Used manufacturer. Select Custom, if you want to use device templates.
• Model
  Device model.
• Version
  Device version.
• Name
  Device name.
• Interface type
  Interface type depends on the used communication channel. Interface types

  • HDLC is used when communicating with the serial port.
  • HdlcWithModeE is used when communicating with the optical probe.
  • WRAPPER is used when communicating using TCP/IP or UDP.
• Authentication
  User authentication level.
• Password
  Used password.
• Security
  Used ciphering security level.
• Wait time
  How long meter reply has waited before the next try.
• Resend count
  How many times meter is try to read.
• Media
  Used media.
• Trace level
  Trace level can be used to save communication information. Trace level is usually not needed, but it's handy when there are problems in communication. Options are:

  • Off: Device actions or traces are not saved.
  • Info: Device actions are saved to Device actions.
  • Verbose: Device communication is saved to Device traces

After you have created the device you can read it with agent.

Each device belongs to one or more device groups. Only users who are part of the device group can access the device. This makes using the program safer.
