I am trying to connect to a HEXING HXE310-KP electric meter over serial (RS-485). I have a MAX 485 module connected via USB.
Despite using the initial settings as specified here, all attempts to connect fail with error message "Failed to receive reply from device in given time".
You need to check first if your converter needs an external power supply. This is the most common problem. Power levels are too low. Then check your serial port settings.
The converter is powered from an external 5V power supply. Serial port setting are 9600 8N1. The manual for the meter specified 8-bytes as password so I am using 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00. All other settings are as specified in the initial config page for HEXING. Is it possible n incorrect client ID could cause this?
Following the search for the right client address, I got the following from Hexing.
Sub station No: Generally it is “01”, it is the logical address of meter. "For protocol DLMS(Mode E) the length of sub station No. is 1 byte, but for DLMS(Direct HDLC for RS 485) it is 4 bytes which is the last 2 bytes of the meter serial number in the nameplate add „0001‟.
Now the client address in DLMS Director can only accept one byte. Is it possible to use another Gurux project instead of DLMS Director (perhaps the Arduino Gurux Server or Client ) and which would accept the 4 bytes?
I have been able to resolve this. The IR from the meter was not 38Khz modulated and I was using a 38KHz receiver. I made an IR transceiver with IR LED as sender and IR Transistor as receiver with some amplifier circuitry and it works perfectly with GXDLMSDirector.
Yes,
For the optical to work the IR sensors i noticed the following
1. The sensors need to be no more than 0-5mm apart even out of sunlight. I made two to confirm effectiveness.
2. The presence of infra red from other sources like sunlight or other red light could corrupt data.
Hello. Please tell me how I can connect to the Hexing 110 counter using GXDLMSDirector? Connection via RS 485. I have no documentation for this meter, it is lost. What settings will you need to set?

Hi,
If the meter is not sending any reply, problems can be the wrong client or server address. Can you ask used client address from the meter vendor?

Hi
Thank you.
I will inquire from the vendor.

Hi,
Client address size is always 1 byte. Length of the substation is server address.
Update your address to the server address.

Hi aizukanne,
Hi aizukanne,
Thank you very much from this info. The optical head is causing a lot of problems. Too much daylight might break the communication. :-)
