We have a long history for making our applications for Windows. We have received lots of inquiries about Linux. Some people are interested to use GXDLMSDirector, GXDirector or GuruxAMI in Linux environment. It is nice if you can use our products in Linux but there are some bigger issues that we want to point out.
Basically there is one bigger reason why we desired to support Linux.
We have received lots of inquiries from our clients and Community members how to handle Dynamic IP addresses in mobile phone network. This is a big problem at this moment. Because if you want to use mobile phone network to collect data and your meter or concentrator can’t send data to the server you must use static IP addresses if you want to poll meters.
This is problem because some mobile operators do not give static IP addresses for smaller companies or they are very expensive. In this moment our clients are using GuruxAMI like picture 1.
This is problem because they can’t read meter’s using dynamic addresses.

Our idea is that we replace Concentrators with embedded Linux device where is GuruxAMI inside. In this way there is no need for static IP addresses (or concentrators) because device servers do the collecting work and after data is send they will send data to the database servers.
Other good side in this is that it is possible to build intelligence to the GuruxAMI so there is no need to send so much data over mobile phone network.
