Hi Mikko,

Happy new year !

I need your advice please, I have to make some tests on indian meters (Capital Power System and L&T), this 2 meters have 2 connection types (HDLC with optical probe and 4G modem).
I am facing a problem, I didn't manage to connect them here in France, I have tried several telecom operators but I see a GRPS connection failed error code on the meter and the APN doesn't give me an IP address (the 2 cosem objects ip4setup and ip6setup remain empty).

When I have opened the modem embedded in the meters, I see the chip was a Neoway N58-CA, the documentation of the chip says that it is for Chinese region (and certainly India & Asia).

Questions :
1) Have you ever seen meters that are adapted to some countries because of frequency band compatibility or other region specific modem configuration ?
2) Do you see an alternative solution for connecting these meters to a French mobile network ? Because the problem is that I can't make some tests with HDLC optical probe, for example I can't test PUSH events, I can't test TCP-IP session establishment and the main problem I can't make remote access to the meter it must be connected directly to a computer.

Best regards,
Mansour

.Hi Mansour,

.Hi Mansour,

1. Yes, I have. Multiple meter manufacturers are making specific models for selected countries.
It's quite common that the meter model might be the same and meters look the same, but then there is one char that tells where this meter can be used. The reason might be used modem, or some other reason.

2. No. If the reason is in the modem, you need to use a different modem and that might be difficult to change.

I suggest you ask the meter vendor about this. It has happened multiple times that there is a firmware update that solves this.

Mikko

Thank you very much Mikko you

Thank you very much Mikko you are right all the meters I have seen are different... and the firmwarebca change hardware behavior (for example locking some capabilities)
We will ask the manufacturer for help even if it is sometimes difficult to get precise answers.

Regards,
Mansour
