The library doesn't set any limitations. All the limitations are coming from the DB, server and connections speed. If encryption is used, more memory and CPU is needed.
If your connection speed is low, you can create more connections to the meters. If your connection is fast, usually there is no point that you have thousands of connections. You can create those connections, but you can't read meters any faster.
